Home By The Sea – #38 (Caged)
Creeping up the blind side, shinning up the wall
stealing through the dark of night
Climbing through a window, stepping to the floor
checking to the left and the right
Picking up the pieces, putting them away
something doesn’t feel quite right
Help me someone, let me out of here
then out of the dark was suddenly heard
“Welcome to the Home by the Sea”
Coming out the woodwork, through the open door
pushing from above and below
Shadows with no substance, in the shape of men
round and down and sideways they go
Adrift without direction, eyes that hold despair
then as one they sigh and they moan
Help us someone, let us out of here
Living here so long undisturbed
dreaming of the time we were free
so many years ago
before the time when we first heard
“Welcome to the Home by the Sea”
Sit down…Sit down
As we relive our lives in what we tell you
Images of sorrow, pictures of delight
things that go to make up a life
Endless days of summer, longer nights of gloom
waiting for the morning light
Scenes of unimportance, photos in a frame
things that go to make up a life
Help us someone, let us out of here
Living here so long undisturbed
dreaming of the time we were free
so many years ago
before the time when we first heard
“Welcome to the Home by the Sea”
Sit down…Sit down
as we relive our lives in what we tell you
let us relive our lives in what we tell you
Sit down…Sit down
Cause you won’t get away
no with us you will stay
for the rest of your days. So sit down
As we relive our lives in what we tell you
Let us relive our lives in what we tell you
I recently got a record player for my birthday. It’s based on an old-time style box one, with speakers built in. But the cool thing about it is you can convert albums to mp3s. You might ask, “Why would you want to do that?” – Simple. I love the pops and crackles that playing an album gives you. It reminds me of being a kid and playing albums.
Which brings us to this piece based on Home By The Sea, by Genesis. It also fits in nicely with this week’s Illustration Friday theme of Caged. I used to love this album when I was in high school, and played it over and over. So now I’m buying albums again of ones I had a long time ago, and sold off when I decided to go to all CDs in the late 80s. Full circle. So I just found the Genesis album at a thrift store for $6. Score!

Very nice one – love it.
I also still have my mother’s albums – all are country music and most are autographed to her – she and my dad used to travel to bluegrass festivals all over the place.
Rob and I still have all our old albums…could never bear to throw them away. Let me know if you are looking for one in particular you can’t find.

I really love the murky rich colours in this. Hard to believe it’s digital!

Thanks Wanda – I should have done that too. I did save a few “rare” ones of The Doors (the two albums after Jim died, and a French fanclub pressing). It’s fun getting back into it!

Thanks Carla! I try to make each piece look as if it were not just a “Photoshopped” image. I’d work non-digitally if it were faster.
Glad you like!
